Male vs. Female Competitions

Rob-HaryRob Hary, a two-time Minnesota PGA Section Junior Golf Leader, is the PGA head professional at Minnesota Valley Country Club in Bloomington, Minn.

We have hosted an annual “Battle of the Sexes” golf tournament in late September for the last seven years. The format pits the men against the women in two-person best ball matches. Members can enter with or without their spouse and we do not pair spouses together in the same group. The two men with the lowest handicaps who sign up will play the two women with the lowest handicap who sign up and so on down the list. Each match scores one point for the winning gender’s team. The winning team wins an adidas top with the “Battle of the Sexes” logo and year and, most importantly, bragging rights for the year with the winner’s flag flying over the first tee at Minnesota Valley through September.

The cost is $35 per player and we had 30 men and 30 women enter in 2013. The entry fee covers the winning team’s adidas training tops with the logo and year. It also covers heavy hors d’oeuvers after golf for all participants. Each year the participation for this event continues to grow, as does the friendly back-and-forth joking among the players.
